The 2025 National Economic and Social Development Statistical Bulletin released by the National Bureau of Statistics on February 28 shows that preliminary calculations indicate that the GDP in 2025 will be 140,187.9 billion yuan, an increase of 5% over the previous year. Final consumption expenditures drove GDP growth by 2.6 percentage points, gross capital formation drove GDP growth by 0.8 percentage points, and net exports of goods and services drove GDP growth by 1.6 percentage points.

Sheng Laiyun, deputy director of the National Bureau of Statistics, said that as my country’s economic scale continues to expand, 5% economic growth corresponds to an economic increment of more than 5 trillion yuan. The new breakthrough in China’s economic aggregate reflects the further improvement of the industrial and agricultural production capacity of a trillion-level economy and the re-release of the development vitality of the service industry. It is an important guarantee for hundreds of millions of families to live and work in peace and contentment. It is a concentrated expression of China’s stable economic foundation, many advantages, strong resilience and great potential.

New productivity has grown steadily. The communiqué shows that among the industries above designated size, the added value of the equipment manufacturing industry will increase by 9.2% over the previous year, accounting for 36.8% of the added value of industries above designated size. The output of service robots was 18.581 million units, an increase of 16.1% over the previous year; the output of mobile communication base station equipment was 5.364 million radio frequency modules, an increase of 13.5%; the output of servers was 5.970 million units, an increase of 12.6%. Among enterprises above designated size in some service industries, the operating income of strategic emerging service industry enterprises increased by 9.3% over the previous year, and the operating income of high-tech service industry enterprises increased by 7.9%. The e-commerce transaction volume was 46,733.9 billion yuan, an increase of 2.5% over the previous year. Online retail sales were 15,972.2 billion yuan, an increase of 8.6% over the previous year.

The communiqué shows that in 2025, research and experimental development (R&D) expenditures will be 3.9262 billion yuan, an increase of 8.1% over the previous year, and a ratio of 2.80% to the GDP. Among them, basic research expenditures will be 277.8 billion yuan, an increase of 11.1% over the previous year, accounting for 7.08% of R&D expenditures.
