Düsseldorf once again demonstrated its commitment to diversity and inclusion during the annual Christopher Street day (CSD) celebration. Thousands of participants marched through the city streets, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and celebrating the community’s vibrant culture.

The event wasn’t without its political undertones. Bundestag President Julia Klöckner faced criticism for prohibiting employees from officially participating in Berlin’s CSD, citing its political nature. This sparked debate in Düsseldorf, where job center employees have historically participated in the city’s CSD.

With the fortunes together with WarmUp 95 and QFF

Initially, Ingo Zielonkowsky, head of the job center, reportedly placed requirements on employee participation. Though, he seemingly relented, as the group participated under the “JC” logo, similar to the previous year. They had initially considered changing their registration to “Office Freunde Düsseldorf.” Zielonkowsky himself accompanied the group.

City Shows its Colors

Düsseldorf’s open and tolerant spirit was evident not only in the participation of various companies but also in the presence of political parties, the district government, city governance, and state parliament representatives. However, the city hall did not raise the rainbow flag, possibly due to a visiting Chinese delegation. the district government proudly displayed the rainbow flag.

Many participating groups used banners to express their political views. This year marked the premiere for the “Grandmas” group.

Celebrations Continue

Alongside registered groups,many young people joined the parade,energized by music from the various floats. The parade culminated at Johannes-Rau-Platz, where a stage program awaited. The festivities continued into the evening with a large CSD party at the steel mill, and concluded on Sunday afternoon with a program on the main stage and a street festival at Apollo.
