In some respects, Dune: Awakening was a huge success, but the studio behind the game was forced to reorganize quite seriously, which causes many to become unemployed.
According to Funcom’s announcement, after development, they switch to fully service Live Service. So from now on, they will focus on new content, game mechanics, features and updates. In addition, the studio is well prepared for the next year’s console appearance, which made the teams to be reorganized and the resources of the various projects had to be coordinated.
The studio emphasizedthat this is not an easy time for them now:
“This difficult process begins now and we cannot assess its effect exactly. We are working to find new opportunities for those involved. Now our goal is to support these team members and give them guidance.”
In vain the record is Steam?
When the Dune: Awakening appears approx. He had 190,000 simultaneous players on Steam. They were about 100,000 of themwho purchased a more expensive package with early access. Although in recent months, ‘only about 20,000 players play with it at the same time, the game is one of the strongest titles in the history of the studio. Funcom has recently released the first major free update to Dune: Awakening, but unfortunately it was not enough to avoid layoffs.
So, for the time being, Dune: Awakening is still zooming in, and Funcom promises to continue to support and update the game. However, for the studio, this is a difficult time when they can lose many employees while focusing on the next major appearance.
