New Bus Services Set to Revolutionize Dublin Commuter Connectivity

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has rolled out a series of enhanced bus services in Dublin, aiming to significantly boost transportation efficiency and accessibility. Beginning on Sunday, two new 24-hour north-south routes, designated as E1 and E2, have commenced operations.

Expanding 24-Hour Bus Service Network

This addition brings the total number of 24-hour bus services in Dublin to 12, serving key areas like Dublin Airport, north Dublin, city centre, and southern districts including Dún Laoghaire and north Wicklow. According to the NTA, overall bus service levels across these regions are expected to increase by 7 percent.

Enhancing Access to Educational and Healthcare Facilities

The new E1 and E2 routes not only improve mobility but also provide more convenient access to major colleges such as University College Dublin (UCD), Trinity College Dublin (TCD), Dublin City University (DCU), and Trinity College Dublin, Griffith Campus (TUD). Additionally, the routes will make hospitals like the Mater, the Rotunda, Temple Street, and Loughlinstown much more accessible.

Route Details: E1 and E2

The E1 departs from Northwood in Santry, traverses through DCU and the city centre, then heads towards the N11, terminating in Ballywaltrim in Bray. The E2 journey begins in Harristown, Co. Kildare, following the same path through DCU and city centre before finishing in Dún Laoghaire.

New Radial Route for Dublin Airport

A fresh 19 radial route catering to commuters traveling between Dublin Airport and the city centre has debuted. It provides direct connections from previously unlinked areas such as Glasnevin and Ballymun to the airport.

Initially, the route terminates in Parnell Square, offering three weekday morning peak services to Merrion Square and three weekday evening peak services from Merrion Square. From February 4th, more services will run to and from Merrion Square and will operate 24/7 from April onwards.

New Local Routes Introduced

Eight new local routes add further to the enhanced transport network. These include:

  • L1: Newtownmountkennedy to Bray station
  • L2: Newcastle to Bray station
  • L3: north Delgany to Glenbrook Park
  • L12: Ballywaltrim to Bray station
  • L14: Southern Cross Road to Palermo in Bray
  • L15: Enniskerry golf club to Bray station
  • L26: Kilternan to Blackrock station
  • L27: Leopardstown Valley to Dún Laoghaire

New Express Routes Streamline Travel

Two new express (X) routes have been initiated. The X1 covers Kilcoole via Greystones to Hawkins Street in the city centre, while the X2 goes from Newcastle via Kilcoole, Greystones, and Brides Glen, concluding at Hawkins Street.

Replacement of Discontinued Lines

The introduction of these routes aims to better serve commuters by replacing a total of 13 existing lines, including 46a, 46e, 63, 63a, 84, 84a, 84x, 143, 144, 145, 155, 184, and 185, which are now no longer in service.

Conclusion

With the launch of these new bus services, Dublin’s transportation network is poised to become more robust and user-friendly. Passengers can anticipate improved travel experiences, shorter commute times, and better access to essential facilities.
