New Phase of BusConnects Launches: Enhanced Routes, 24-Hour Service, and Night-Time Economy Boost
Welcome to a new era of public transportation in Dublin as BusConnects launches Phase 6a. This phase introduces 13 brand-new routes in collaboration with Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead Ireland, significantly enhancing service levels across the city and its outskirts.
Expanding Coverage and Accessibility
The new routes will connect communities between Dublin Airport, north Dublin, the city centre, south Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, and north Wicklow. These additions aim to increase overall bus service levels by over seven percent.
The E-spine: A City Through Night
Among the highlights is the extended E-spine, now operating around the clock. The combined E1 and E2 routes will run from just north of Ballymun, through the city centre, to Dún Laoghaire, and Bray/Ballywaltrim. This round-the-clock service will greatly improve access to key locations, including universities like UCD, TCD, and DCU, as well as hospitals such as the Mater, Rotunda, Temple Street, and Loughlinstown.
With the introduction of these 24-hour services, Dublin will boast twelve 24/7 bus routes, aligning perfectly with the Government’s Night-Time Economy Taskforce recommendations. The enhanced public transport options will encourage people to choose public transportation for work or leisure activities, thus supporting the thriving night-time economy.
New Service Routes
Another key addition is Route 19, which connects Dublin Airport to the heart of Dublin via Ballymun and Wadelai. This route will operate with a frequency of every 20 minutes throughout the day and deepen to every 10 minutes between Wadelai and the city centre during peak hours. Initially terminating in Parnell Square, the route will expand to Merrion Square in February and run to the end of the day from April.
Labouring for Local Connections
Phase 6a also includes eight new local routes designed to link communities to local centers and onward transport connections. Starting January 26th, these routes will provide enhanced services and connectivity, particularly in the south Dublin and north Wicklow areas.
