Completed and ongoing construction work
While the two major projects Wehlener Straße-Alttolkewitz-Österreicher Straße and Bautzner Straße/Prießnitzbrücke will be completed in 2025, the following streets are still under construction:
- Stauffenbergallee (Rudolf-Leonhard-Straße to Hammerweg, remaining services until the end of March 2026, partly thorough expansion, barrier-free tram stops, conversion of traffic lights)
- Lübecker Straße (Altcotta to Emerich-Ambros-Ufer, until February 2026, thorough expansion of tracks, roadways and some of the sidewalks, barrier-free stops and sidewalks)
- Hohendölzschener Straße ( Grenzallee to Altdölzschen, until March 2026, road expansion)
- Fabricestrasse Bridge (until February 2027, replacement building)
- Hamburger Straße (Warthaer Straße and Weißeritz bridges, until March 2029, thorough road construction, cycle lanes, track construction, replacement railway bridge, new barrier-free transfer point)
As part of the modernization of the traffic information system, three additional traffic information boards will be replaced by the end of the year (St. Petersburger Straße, Stübelallee and Wehlener Straße). The Dohnaer Straße/Erich-Kästner-Straße traffic sign has already been modernized. The traffic information boards show e.g. B. traffic jams, travel times to the city center, free P+R parking spaces and public transport connections and thus encourage combining different types of transport.
What’s coming up in 2027
From February 2027 to mid-2029, all three structures of the bridge between Hermann-Mende-Straße and Magazinstraße will be completely rebuilt, parallel to the renovation of the southern section of Königsbrücker Straße.
Quohrener Strasse is also scheduled to be renovated in the next few years in the section between Bautzner Landstrasse and Schönfelder Landstrasse. Construction work on the first section from the B6 to Rossendorfer Straße is expected to begin in spring 2027.
From 2027 onwards, the renewal of road surfaces will be increasingly on the agenda. Around five million euros per year are budgeted for this. The Pillnitzer Landstraße near Altwachwitz is scheduled to begin as early as 2026, and from 2027 ceiling replacement work will begin on Reicker Straße in Altreick, on Zwinglistraße, Karcherallee and Coventrystraße.
Other important projects are still being planned. The first construction phase of Königsbrücker Landstrasse from Darwinstrasse to Arkonastrasse is currently in implementation planning; construction is scheduled to take place from October 2027 to May 2028. The second construction phase from Karl-Marx-Straße to Darwinstraße is still being approved. The plan is to expand the tram to two tracks, barrier-free stops and a rural cycle lane.
