Dresden Caricature Prize: Generational Conflict & Artists

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

The boomers are leaving, the young people increasingly have to take care of themselves, the generational conflict is boiling: the caricature exhibition “Now it’s your turn” opens in Dresden on Saturday. Here is a selection of cartoons that will stay in your mind.

Dresden. At some point it’s everyone’s turn. Everyone too. The time has come to take responsibility, regardless of whether he, she or it wants it. The old ones pass on the baton in a slightly desperate manner and sincerely hope that the young ones will be able to manage it in the future. Finally, it’s their turn now. But the ancestors and descendants don’t really trust each other.

This generational conflict is currently heating up particularly heatedly, currently fueled by the debate about the reintroduction of compulsory military service, but also by shrinking pension and health care funds. The 26th German Caricature Prize picked up directly from this and had the motto: “Now it’s your turn”. Which can of course be understood in an ambiguous way: in the sense of “now it’s your turn” and “now it’s your turn”.

Founded 25 years ago by the Sächsische Zeitung

The winners of the competition were announced at a celebratory awards ceremony in Bremen on November 2nd. Starting this Saturday, countless contributions can be seen again in our exhibition in the Dresden Press House. In other words, where the Sächsische Zeitung launched what has become the most important award in the German-speaking cartoon scene 25 years ago. The Bremer Weser-Kurier has been a co-organizer since 2016.
