The suspicious object was discovered during explorations on the Königsufer on the Neustädter Elbe side – in advance of the new Carolabrücke building. The data produced by the sounding indicated “a round body,” according to the drilling company. It could also have been a pipe.
The 11,000 square meter area on Königsufer has been riddled with drilling since October. A probe is placed in the drill shaft that reacts to metallic objects. This was the case in a total of 31 places. 29 of these were classified as non-critical. But two places had to be examined more closely – a bomb was found. The other object was not a bomb.
Since the end of February, specialists have been checking the unsuspected areas of interference. They primarily encountered metallic scrap.
