Before investing in a new high-priced kitchen knife, or replacing your old block bought on discount for something better, you might want to take a quick detour to Dollarama. Yes, really. Even though the giant is known for its deals, notably thanks to its “everything for less than $5” policy, you often come across items from major brands sold for a fraction of the price. The real fans of Doll know: between popular beauty products, high-end shampoos and quality finds, we sometimes make some pretty surprising discoveries.

And this time, it’s in your kitchen that you could score an incredible bargain. Between a few odds and ends, you can currently get your hands on real professional knives. This is the Re-generation by Berndes line: a range of knives made from at least 93% recycled stainless steel, designed in Germany and designed in the United Kingdom. It is presented as such:
“Our first line of Re-generation knives, featuring double rivet construction for a high-quality, professional look and grip. A versatile collection that combines the best of Western and Japanese style knives. »

In Canada, these products from the eco-friendly range don’t seem to be on sale anywhere, but you can get your hands on Berndes products for a tidy sum on Amazon. It’s hard to believe you can get this for just $5.
It’s well known that inventory varies from one Dollarama to another. In Laval, I was able to get my hands on two models, in minimalist and chic packaging which also stood out on the shelves. These are the 19 cm chef’s knife and the 19 cm bread knife.

According to the presentation on the website, the construction full tang (blade which extends over the entire length and width of the handle) with double rivet ensures remarkable solidity and balance. The blades, which benefit from an elegant satin polish, are bevel sharpened at a more acute angle, providing a significantly greater sharpness. The handle was designed for comfort and to reduce fatigue during prolonged use.
Each knife has been specifically designed for its function, allowing food to be prepared with professional precision.

Of course, I wanted to get my hands on these knives to check if they really live up to the brand’s promises, and above all, if they are worth the purchase. I must admit: I am not one of those who invest in high-end knives. I usually buy basic sets at Canadian Tire, and it does the job.
So I was frankly surprised by the quality of this product, especially for its price. The careful packaging and the shine of the blades are striking upon opening. They are very thin, very sharp, and really feel luxurious.
I can say it without exaggeration: the 19 cm chef’s knife is the best I have used to date. It went through the skin of my tomatoes and vegetables like it was butter. It must also be handled with caution, an accident can quickly happen with such a sharp blade. The knife is dishwasher safe, but personally I find it too elegant to take that risk.
At $5, this little gem convinced me so much that I bought a second one (and a third, to keep in reserve). And let me tell you: run to Doll!
However, it should be noted that Dollarama’s inventory varies from one branch to another.
