DNA, CCTV Evidence Corroborate Accused in South Calcutta Law College Case
Police inquiry strengthens case against key suspect in alleged rape.

investigating officers with the KOLKATA Police have stated in their chargesheet that DNA evidence supports the involvement of key suspect MONOJIT ‘MANGO’ MISHRA in the alleged rape of a student inside SOUTH CALCUTTA LAW COLLEGE.
According to police sources on Monday, DNA analysis of samples taken from the 24-year-old survivor’s clothing matched the DNA of the accused. blood samples were collected from both the survivor and the accused for DNA testing.
The chargesheet has been submitted to the COURT OF ADDITIONAL CHIEF JUDICIAL MAGISTRATE ALIPORE, naming MISHRA, the primary suspect and a former student of the college, along with three other individuals.
“DNA tests also corroborated the presence of both the survivor and the accused at the crime spot . The DNA report appears to be one of the significant pieces of evidence in this case,” the police officer told PTI.
The chargesheet also states that CCTV footage obtained from the college grounds and two nearby stores corroborates the crime, according to police.
“The footage also showed that the crime spot was inside the guard’s room. The role of the other two accused, PRAMIT MUKHERJEE and ZAIB AHMED, who stood outside the room, and also that of the security guard, could be seen,” the officer said.
He added that investigators are awaiting the results of voice sample analyses taken from the accused individuals’ cell phones.
“once the results are delivered,a supplementary chargesheet will be filed in court,” he stated.
A first-year student at SOUTH CALCUTTA LAW COLLEGE filed a complaint alleging that she was gang-raped inside the institution on June 25 by a former student and two senior students.
Police have taken the three suspects into custody for their alleged involvement in the crime, and also the security guard for alleged dereliction of duty.
