Citizens’ Memory of Dr. Singh

According to Shivakumar, Singh’s tenure will be remembered for his efforts in granting fundamental rights through constitutional means. Rights to education, food, employment, and transparency were among the significant contributions highlighted by the Deputy Chief Minister.

“Before he died, Manmohan Singh had made it very clear that the media and opposition would have to remember him. Every citizen of this country has to remember him for the work he undertook,” Shivakumar stated.

The Urgency for a Memorial

Shivakumar also addressed the issue of a memorial to honor Dr. Singh. He urged that space be allocated for the memorial, hoping that the government would agree to the request of the Congress party.

The mortal remains of Dr. Manmohan Singh were brought to the AICC headquarters in Delhi from his residence. Party workers and politicians, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, gathered to pay their respects.

Funeral and Funeral March Preparations

The cremation ceremony of Dr. Singh is scheduled for 11:45 PM at Nigambodh Ghat in Delhi’s Kashmere Gate. Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories to avoid certain roads during the process.

Government’s Response

Home Minister Amit Shah communicated to Congress President Kharge that the government would allocate space for the memorial. However, cremation and formalities would proceed initially as a trust would need to be formed.
