Despite the dramatic moments regarding his fitness, Djokovic calmed his fans with regard to his condition. “It’s okay. Athletes have heights and depths. I don’t want to reveal too much to my opponents who hear and see this interview,” Djokovic answered carefully when he was asked about his back injury during an interview.

“I’m fine, people,” he added. “I’m still as young and healthy as ever. This is New York. Even if I don’t feel something physically, the energy that I feel in this field overwhelms everything else.”

The number 7 of the seed list started strongly, left only two points on the surcharge and hit 17 Winner in the first set. A medical call on the edge of the field after the ninth game worried the fans at the Arthur Ashe stage.

The four-time US Open winner suffered from back pain towards a difficult network game towards the end of the first set. Before he hit the 6: 4 set win, the 38-year-old left the place to be treated in the changing room of ATP physiotherapist Clay Sniteman.

Djokovic was also treated at the first change of place in the second set, but from then on played the rest of the match without any problems.

In a high -class match, Norrie hit 44 Winner, including 27 forehand strokes. Djokovic also beat 51, including 18 aces, his personal best in Flushing Meadows.

“Overall, it was probably the best surcharge of the tournament. Of course I’m happy. It was probably one of the most important blows, if not the most important blow to the game. So I am very satisfied with the way I did this blow,” added Djokovic.

In the fourth round, Djokovic meets the German Jan-Lennard Struff, who defeated the semi-finalists from 2024, Frances Tiafoe, 6: 4, 6: 3, 7: 6 (7). The seven-time ATP final winner, which was number 1 in the world for 428 weeks, is in position 7 and could meet Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals and in the semi-finals at Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic won his 24th and last big title in Flushing Meadows in 2023. Norrie, on the other hand, has never beaten a top 10 player at a big tournament (0-11) and is in his series against Djokovic at 0-7.
