Novak Djokovic is set to pursue a historic milestone at Roland Garros, aiming for a record-breaking 25th major title. The 38-year-old Serbian tennis star advanced to the French Open semifinals after defeating alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

However, to secure the title, Djokovic faces a challenging path. He is slated to compete against world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who currently holds a 19-match Grand Slam winning streak, in the semifinals. Should he advance, Djokovic would likely face No.2 and defending champion Carlos alcaraz in the final.

A Grand Slam First?

Winning this tournament would mean that, for the first time in ATP rankings history, a player has defeated the top three ranked players to win a Grand Slam tournament.

Djokovic is also in contention to become the oldest man to ever win a major singles title.His head-to-head record with Sinner stands at 4-4.

Prior to their quarterfinal match, Zverev acknowledged Djokovic’s prowess, stating, “I mean, the guy [has] won 24 Grand Slams. He’s never going to be a dark horse.” He added, “He definitely knows what it means to be on the big stage and to play big matches. There is no doubt about that.”

Zverev also noted, “For me, Carlos [Alcaraz] is the favorite. I have said that before. Then I would say the next three in line are Jannik [Sinner] myself and Novak, right? I still believe that. Novak is up there with us, no question about that at all.”

Djokovic’s journey at the Australian Open earlier this year was cut short when he had to retire from his semifinal match against Zverev due to a muscle tear in his left leg.Sinner subsequently defeated Zverev in straight sets to claim his second consecutive hardcourt major title.

Reflecting on his recent victory over Zverev, Djokovic remarked: “Evidently there was a lot of pressure at the end, Zverev has been one of the best players in the world over the past six years. Matches like this tonight are the reason why I still want to play and compete.”
