The “Nuenen artist,” django Wagner, marked a “special milestone” on Monday evening at the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam. The performance featured his well-known hits, “gypsy sounds and Brabant cosiness.” Wagner expressed his pride after the show, stating it was “Really great.”
The audience actively participated, clapping, singing, and dancing. When Wagner performed his hit song “Kali,” the entire room roared, “”Kali! I miss your Kali!””
A Night of Music and Memories
“It was one big party,” says Wagner smiling when he gets off the stage. “I would have preferred another hour. It was just fantastic.”
Fans from around the globe attended the performance at the iconic theater. Wagner noted, “”Many people from Brabant of course, but also Belgians and Amsterdammers. And also people I have seen at performances for years. That makes it extra special.””
During his performance with the Rosenberg Trio, Wagner paid tribute to the Sintcom. He told Omroep Brabant prior to the show,””The stage was nicely dressed,we even had a miniature caravan.”” He also included songs in the Sinti language, explaining, “”I have to let them hear, isn’t it?””
Looking Ahead
While Wagner typically performs at “square parties, in brown pubs and party tents,” he seems to have enjoyed the theater experiance. “”In this setup, with these men, I want to go further into the theater,”” he stated.
When asked about future venues after Carré, Wagner mentioned, “”The Parktheater in Eindhoven and the Chassé Theater in Breda seem stunning,”” adding, “”Actually this is just an open invitation.”” Though, he remains grounded, saying, “”The next performance may just as well be in a small theater. Then I will explain something myself, that doesn’t matter to me. As long as it is cozy and beautiful.”
The evening was also emotional for Wagner,as his father was present, but his mother,”his biggest fan,” was missed. “”That was arduous,”” he admitted. “”But I know she has looked from heaven. She is probably proud.”
