Webtoon Entertainment (WBTN) saw its shares jump 30% in premarket trading following the proclamation that Walt disney (DIS) will acquire a stake in the company. The collaboration aims to develop a new platform for Disney’s comic franchises.

According to Webtoon, the companies have reached a “non-binding term sheet for the development of an all-new digital comics platform that will feature current comic book runs and include decades of past comics from across Disney’s portfolio including Marvel, ‘Star Wars,’ 20th Century Studios and more.” The platform will offer a extensive digital comics service with a single subscription, providing access to an extensive library of stories.

As part of the agreement, Disney will obtain a 2% equity interest in Webtoon. The investment and collaboration agreement are still subject to finalization.

Webtoon Founder and CEO Junkoo kim stated that the partnership represents “a powerful next step for our growing global business, and a strong foundation for even greater collaboration with Disney in the years ahead.”

Webtoon Entertainment shares had been struggling for most of 2025 but experienced a surge last month after the announcement of another collaboration with Disney. Shares of Walt Disney have also shown positive year-to-date performance.
