DiCaprio Scorsese Regret: What He Wishes He’d Done Differently

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

The partnership between star Leonardo DiCaprio and international director Martin Scorsese is considered one of the most prominent duos in the history of cinema, as they brought together six successful films over more than two decades, with a seventh work in preparation. Despite this long and fruitful cooperation, DiCaprio revealed only one thing he wishes he had done during his trip with Scorsese.

Regret is related to learning, not learning

During a conversation with Scorsese at the A Year in TIME event, the Titanic star explained that he does not aspire to direct, stressing that he does not see himself capable of approaching the level presented by his cinematic mentor. But at the same time, he admitted a slight regret, which is that he did not learn more deeply from Scorsese’s directing methods.

Focus on representation…at the expense of monitoring

Addressing Scorsese, DiCaprio said: “One of the few things I would say I regretted in our relationship, if any, is that I was too preoccupied with what I did as an actor.” He added: “You make your decisions, delve into the characters, and try to reach the depths of their souls as much as possible, but I wish I had been more of an observer, watching what you do behind the camera.”

The beginning of cooperation and its most prominent milestones

The collaboration between the duo began in 2002 with the film Gangs of New York, later becoming one of the most successful alliances between an actor and a director in Hollywood. Their last work together was the movie Killers of the Flower Moon in 2023, which received 10 Oscar nominations, including a nomination for Best Picture.

A new job is on the horizon

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are currently preparing to start filming their seventh film together, which is scheduled to begin filming next February, in a new step added to the record of their exceptional cinematic partnership.

With these statements, DiCaprio confirms that his relationship with Scorsese was not just a professional collaboration, but rather a profound learning experience, which he wishes he had invested more behind the camera, not just in front of it.
