Shimla: A 19-year-old student died after being brutally raped in a government college in Dharamsala. He died during treatment at a private hospital in Ludhiana. It is alleged that the girl was physically, mentally and sexually abused by senior students for ragging. The deceased girl is a native of Sidbari in Dharamsala.

The event will take place on September 18, 2025. Senior students Harshita, Aaksha and Komolika assaulted, beat and threatened the girl. In addition, the complaint filed by the parents stated that Ashok Kumar, a college professor, committed obscene acts and this made the student in extreme fear and mental stress.
The crippled girl sought treatment at a hospital in Himachal Pradesh after being beaten and tortured. When he did not recover, he sought treatment at various hospitals in Himachal Pradesh, but there was no significant change. He was later shifted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana for specialist treatment. Died on December 26, 2025 while undergoing treatment.
After the girl’s death, the family approached the police. On January 1, 2026, the girl’s father lodged an official complaint with the Dharamsala police. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under sections 75 (sexual harassment), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 3(5) (criminal intimidation with common intent) of the Indian Penal Code and under section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009.
Harshita, Aksha, Komalika and Professor Ashok Kumar are the main accused in the case. Dharamsala Superintendent of Police Ashok Ratan said that an FIR has been registered and the case is under preliminary investigation. He clarified that earlier the complaint was only against the students and the sexual harassment allegations came only after new information came out.
The police also confirmed that the girl sought treatment in at least seven hospitals during her illness. Further investigation is underway.
