New Capital Nusantara Moves Forward with Strong Investment and Government Support

Nusantara’s Development Progress Highlights Optimism for 2028 Completion

Jakarta—The development of Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara, is progressing smoothly, according to Ahmad Muzani, the chairperson of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR). Muzani emphasized that efforts are on track to establish Nusantara as the government center by 2028.

Government Allocation Aids Key Infrastructure Projects

The government has allocated a significant budget of Rp48.8 trillion, approximately US$2.98 billion, to advance the development of Nusantara. As mandated by President Prabowo Subianto, this allocation will fund the completion of legislative and judicial complexes, the city’s supporting ecosystem, and the initiation of the second phase of Nusantara City.

Economic Growth Opportunities Galore

Muzani expressed confidence that the development of Nusantara will not only serve as a center of governance and political activities but also ignite economic growth. The new capital aims to become a focal point for important decisions and cultural landmarks.

“Creating a new city from scratch, with a fresh atmosphere and way of life—this is what we need to consider for Nusantara to capture attention and become a hub for government, politics, and culture,” Muzani stated.

Investor Confidence and Early Progress

According to Muzani, the project’s progress will help alleviate investor doubts about funding the development of Nusantara. In the initial phase (2022–2024), the government invested Rp89 trillion, utilizing state budget funds to construct essential infrastructure such as toll roads, residential towers, sanitation facilities, and office buildings.

Furthermore, as of September 2024, private-sector investments totaling at least Rp58.41 trillion have been secured for the city’s ongoing development.

Collaboration with OIKN Strengthens Development Efforts

The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), led by Basuki Hadimuljono, has been instrumental in supporting the new capital’s progress. OIKN’s role includes overseeing key infrastructure projects aimed at preparing Nusantara for its intended purpose.

Future Vision of Nusantara

Muzani’s optimism is shared by many who envision Nusantara as a beacon of new beginnings. The planned city will serve as a nexus of government functions, cultural heritage, and economic opportunities, making it a central point of attention and activity in the Indonesian landscape.

Conclusion

The development of Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara, continues to make strides forward, bolstered by strong government and private investments, ambitious plans, and a hopeful vision for the future. As the completion date approaches in 2028, Nusantara promises to reshape the nation’s political, economic, and cultural landscape.
