Destruction Unveils Extensive Worldwide Tour for Upcoming Album ‘Birth of Malice’
In a recent interview with Metal Remains, Schmier, bassist and vocalist of the renowned German thrash metal band Destruction, revealed exciting details about the band’s touring schedule for their eagerly awaited 16th studio album, titled “Birth of Malice,” set to release on March 7, 2025, via Napalm Records.
Touring Plans and Challenges
Schmier shared, “We have a lot of plans, but we need to figure out the logistics. We originally wanted to tour America, but the current visa requirements have complicated things. They’re expensive and time-consuming, making it difficult to secure them in time. As a result, we’re considering postponing the American tour and exploring other options, such as a trip to Asia in May.”
The band also plans to commemorate their 40th anniversary by performing exclusively with their debut album, “Infernal Overkill,” at various festivals throughout the summer. “This will be the first time we’ve played the entire album, and it promises to be an exciting celebration of our musical journey,” Schmier added.
Historical Context and Lineup
Schmier is the sole surviving member from Destruction’s original lineup that recorded “Infernal Overkill,” alongside guitarist Mike Sifringer and drummer Tommy Sandmann. In August 2021, Sifringer departed the band, paving the way for Martin Furia’s entry.
Furia, known for his work with bands like NERVOSA and EVIL INVADERS, brings a fresh perspective to the band’s musical landscape. Since Schmier’s rejoining in 1999, numerous lineup changes have occurred, making the current roster a blend of veteran and new talent.
Album Production and Art Design
“Birth of Malice” was recorded at Little Creek Studio in Switzerland by producer V.O. Pulver. Guitarist Martin Furia handled the mixing and mastering at The Black Mancave in Hannover, Germany. Hungarian artist Gyula Havancsák designed the album’s cover, showcasing his talents with previous works for iconic metal bands such as ACCEPT, KREATOR, and BLIND GUARDIAN.
Past Performances and Band Legacy
With a career spanning over four decades, Destruction has established itself as one of the most influential thrash metal acts worldwide. They have performed at many renowned festivals, including Hellfest, Wacken Open Air, Graspop Metal Meeting, and México Metal Fest.
Part of the “Teutonic Four,” Destruction has reunited with KREATOR, SODOM, and TANKARD for critically acclaimed events like the “Klash Of The Ruhrpott” concert on July 20, 2024, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
Currently, Destruction’s 2025 lineup comprises Schmier (bass, vocals), Martin Furia (guitars), Randy Black (drums), and Damir Eskić (guitars).
