Heusden Alzheimer Café to Host Discussion on dementia and Diet
The Alzheimer Café Heusden is set to host an informative meeting focusing on the critical role of nutrition in managing dementia.The event, scheduled for April 24th at Sint Janshof, entrance Meeting Center De hop, Pastoor van Akenstraat 30, 5251BE Vlijmen, aims to provide insights and practical advice for individuals living with dementia, their caregivers, and families.
Doors open at 7:30 PM, with the main session running from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Admission is free, and advance registration is not required, making it accessible to all interested parties.
Expert insights on the Power of Food
Manon Migchels, a registered dietician and nutrition coach from Langstraat dietician practice, will lead the discussion. Migchels will delve into the profound impact of proper nutrition on individuals affected by dementia. Her presentation will highlight how dietary choices can influence the progression of the disease and alleviate certain symptoms.
The effect of nutrition on our health is clear. More and more studies show how nutrition can definately help prevent diseases (prevention). And also in the treatment of a disease,nutrition plays an increasingly important role. Such as,to reduce symptoms. There is also a connection between food and dementia.
The link between diet and cognitive function is increasingly recognized. Research suggests that specific nutrients and dietary patterns can play a protective role against cognitive decline. For instance, the MIND diet, a hybrid of the Mediterranean and DASH diets, has shown promise in slowing cognitive decline and reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. A 2015 study published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia found that adherence to the MIND diet was associated with a 53% reduced risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
