Delfzijl – During the night from Saturday to Sunday, a motorist left the road on Damsterlaan, coming from the center towards Appingedam. In a gentle bend the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The car hit a lamppost, which was completely knocked over, and then came to rest head-on against a tree. The vehicle remained badly damaged on the road.
After the accident, the driver got out and fled. Witnesses were able to provide a partial description and walking direction to the police.
Based on license plate data, the police later visited a house in Delfzijl-Noord. It is currently unknown whether the driver was found or arrested there.
Damsterlaan was partially closed for some time due to the accident and its handling.
