GUAYAQUIL – an exhibition match between tennis stars Nicolás Lapentti of Ecuador and Juan Martín del Potro of Argentina will take place on Saturday, July 19, as they compete for the Guayaquil American Sports Capital Trophy 2026 presented by American Express Banco Guayaquil.

Both “Nico” and “Delpo” are celebrated for their outstanding careers, representing their nations and inspiring latin American tennis fans with their skill and charisma.

Lapentti reached a career-high ranking of #6 in the world in 2000. He won 5 ATP tournaments, participated in the Master ATP in 1999, and led Ecuador to two promotions to the World Cup in Davis. He also holds the Davis Cup record for most wins in 5-set singles matches (13).

Del Potro’s achievements include winning the US Open in 2009 against roger Federer, securing 22 tournament titles, reaching #3 in the world in 2018, winning the Davis Cup in 2016, and earning olympic medals (bronze in London and silver in Rio de Janeiro).

The match will be held at the Guayaquil Tennis club Annex at 7:30 p.m.on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Tickets are priced at $30 and available for purchase starting Thursday at Ticketshow.
