Crushing debt service burden, direct impacts: When Thierno Alassane Sall warned

“On Thursday, November 6, in my speech in the Finance Committee, addressing the finance ministers and his colleague in charge of the economy, I warned of the crushing burden of debt service. I also warned about the direct impacts on this debt (through interest) and on the ability to resort to the financial market of the war between Diomaye and Sonko.” So warned MP Thierno Alassane Sall.

But, laments the president of the La République des Valeurs/Réewum Ngor party, “many of my colleagues from Pastef sneered at my remarks.” And to be offended: less than a week later, Senegal is sinking into the final circles of financial hell, following the developments in the war at the top.

The former Minister of Energy under Macky Sall notes that “Pastef, the Diomaye Coalition and their many allies have lost all sense of ethics and responsibility by offering the People a pitiful war of leaders while the “enemies” of Senegal work day and night. The country is faced with a colossal debt which makes urgent investments almost impossible. Poverty and hunger are hitting ever wider social strata, JNIM is at our borders. And so on.”

He thinks that in this context, talking about a transitional President, ignoring the councils of ministers, dividing the country between Pro Diomaye and pro Sonko is not only childish, it is betraying Senegal. For Thierno Alassane Sall, “the real high treason would be to let this bitch prosper”.
