Superman: James Gunn Clears Up Reshoots Rumors, Focuses on Superman’s Legacy

Fans eagerly awaiting James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy were recently met with reports of additional filming for the movie. Early speculation suggested extensive reshoots were planned, but Gunn quickly took to social media to clarify the situation.

The Guardians of the Galaxy director explained on Threads that the news was exaggerated, revealing that only a few days of "pickup shots" are needed to enhance the film.

However, this reassurance didn’t come without addressing fan concerns about the direction of the DC Universe under his leadership.

Gunn addressed the criticism that he’s ignoring classic DC storytelling tropes, like origin stories, in favor of lesser-known characters like Swamp Thing.

He firmly refuted claims that Batman and Superman’s origins are irrelevant, stating, "I’m not telling Batman and Superman’s origin stories again because everyone knows them.”

But he was quick to defend Swamp Thing, calling it a project already in development and pointing out the character’s rich history in comic books, film, and TV.

He also revealed that DC Studios’ Superman: Legacy cast includes some familiar faces alongside brand-new actors.

David Corenswet portrays the titular hero, with Rachel Brosnahan taking on the role of Lois Lane. The supporting cast boasts Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Elena Kampouris as TBD as well as several familiar faces from DC’s cinematic universe.

Tune in for Superman: Legacy, scheduled to premiere in Summer 2025. With James Gunn at the helm, this new iteration of Superman promises an exciting take on the iconic character while remaining true to his legacy. Are you excited for this new chapter in the Superman saga?
