Danny O’Carroll Embraces Emotional Journey on Dancing with the Stars
With tears likely welling up in the studio, Dancing with the Stars contestant Danny O’Carroll is set to give an emotional and heartfelt performance for his father and Mrs Brown’s Boys co-star Brendan O’Carroll. Part of the show’s Dedicated Dance Week, O’Carroll promises to move audiences with a routine dedicated to his number one fan.
The Emotional Dedication
O’Carroll will step onto the dance floor dressed as his Mrs Brown’s Boys character Buster Brady, dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha to Tom Jones’s classic She’s a Lady, with professional dancer Salome Chachua partnering him as Mrs. Brown. Despite the apparent comedic elements, O’Carroll admits to being overwhelmed by the emotions he must channel during the routine.
“I didn’t know it was going to be an emotional week!” O’Carroll shared his thoughts on his special dedication. “It took me by surprise since I had never seen anything like it on the show before. When they announced Dedicated Dance Week, I was thrilled because of the opportunity to dedicate a dance to someone special.”
His intention to honor his father was clear from the start. “When you love someone so deeply, and you express your feelings so many times, you find unique ways to show your affection. Performing this dance for him is a once in a lifetime chance to truly nail it, for him. But as we prepped for the show with pre-recorded interviews, even the VTs (video testimonials) became too much for me to bear. They were so heartfelt that I caught myself holding back tears.”
Honoring His Father
Reflecting on the thrill of announcing his dedication, O’Carroll said, “I called my dad to share the news, and I got emotional all over again. He was very pleased that his son would be dedicating this dance to him, and even shed a tear himself. When I mentioned why I was doing it during the interview, it was such a vulnerable moment that I almost lost it there.”
His sentiment is clear: “It’s a real feat to be able to express this much love through dance, and it’s tough to even comprehend the emotions involved. I don’t know what the other dancers are doing, but I’m feeling like this is far too intense.” Nonetheless, O’Carroll is enjoying the DWTS experience immensely, appreciating how his family now looks forward to Sundays and his performances.
Family Support and Future Goals
His dad, Brendan O’Carroll, resides in Florida and supports Danny by cheering him on from afar. “The only thing I’d love is to make it to the finals, so my dad can see me perform in person,” O’Carroll expressed his wish. “Even though I’m not planning on winning, I hope it goes to the best dancer or the most likeable person. This show is challenging, but it’s also all about having fun.”
As for his father joining him on the dance floor, O’Carroll revealed his doubts. “There’s no hope of that! He even directs a musical, and he never dances in it himself!” His father’s contribution to art, despite his lack of dance skills, adds to the already heartwarming story of family devotion and support.
Looking Forward to Sunday
Despite the emotional rollercoaster, O’Carroll is optimistic about Sunday’s show. “My family is living for Sundays now, and I can’t wait for them to watch me dance. I’m grateful for this platform and the chance to honor my dad.”
Though many viewers are eager to see Danny O’Carroll’s performance, the show promises more than just this touching dedication. “Dancing with the Stars” continues its engaging journey on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player every Sunday at 6:30pm. Tune in to see O’Carroll and his professional partner, Salome Chachua, stepping out on the dance floor to bring his love for his dad to life through the Cha-Cha-Cha.
