According to the statement of the newly appointed Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) on Tuesday, the post office has huge financial problems, is almost close to bankruptcy and needs to be stabilized. He also criticized the management, which, according to him, did not understand at all how to run the post office.
“Česká pošta is financially stabilized, the business trend has definitely turned around and there is no risk of insolvency,” Czech Post CEO Miroslav Štěpán responded on Wednesday.
According to him, the positive economic results in November confirmed that the company is heading for significantly better economic performance than in previous years. “Behind the significantly better data are the positive results of the rationalization and restructuring plan, which is an essential part of the transformation of the Czech Post,” said Štěpán. According to him, the improvement is evident both in Česká pošta and in the spin-off plant in Balíkovna.
According to Štěpán, even if the income from the sale of real estate were to reach the results of 2026, this year will be the best economic result since 2018. It is also for this reason that the management of the company decided to pay out an extraordinary bonus to Czech Post employees.
The state enterprise Česká pošta employs almost 20,000 people and last year reported a drop in operating income of 872 million to 18.3 billion crowns. The company has been undergoing a transformation in the last two years, which is supposed to stabilize the economy. It includes this year’s separation of the commercial Balíkovna into a separate spin-off plant and the search for a strategic partner for it.
