The new mayor has promised a solution to the problem. The police have commented on their view of the situation. Guido Kratzke, WN editor, commented on the current situation. Next, my opinion and suggestion about Neustraße cycling. When the inner city redevelopment project was presented at the time, the landscape planner Mr. Bracht presented the traffic regulations as follows. The middle section of Neustrasse has gray concrete paving that is truck-proof, as heavy fire engines also have to use this area.
Two pedestrian zones
In the two peripheral areas, along the shop window fronts and shops/apartments, the street will have clinker paving, colored in contrasting colors for pedestrian traffic. This means that pedestrians on Neustrasse can move separately from cyclists on both sides of the street and are clearly visible in color. When I walk on Neustrasse today, I usually only walk on the clinker strip on the right or left of the front of the house, as the planner intended.
For me, the question has long been asked as to why the pedestrian paths on the right and left in Neustrasse are not signposted as such and are in plain language forbidden for cyclists, e-scooters, scooters, etc. and the use of the middle lane for cycling and various other small motorized vehicles is mandatory. The division of the street into two pedestrian zones (left and right) and a middle bicycle lane made it possible to set up prohibition and mandatory signs and to carry out appropriate checks and punish cyclists’ misconduct.
