CARLSBAD, Calif. – The Colorado men’s golf team has positioned itself in a tie for eighth place after the first round of the NCAA Championship finals.

Senior Justin bowl led the way for Colorado, carding a 4-under-par 68 on the North Course at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. His performance puts him in a tie for fourth place individually.

Brandon Knight added an even-par 72, while Dylan McDermott contributed a 1-over 73. You Holbrook posted a 4-over 76, and Hunter Swanson finished with a 6-over 78.

Course Redesign Impact

bowl noted the changes to the course sence its redesign, saying, “The course itself is very different – I had played it numerous times before the redesign, but it plays fully different, especially around and on the greens. The layout I was still familiar with, but the greens are much more challenging than they were.”

Coach’s Viewpoint

Head coach Roy Edwards expressed satisfaction with the team’s start, stating, “‘Overall a very good start to the tournament. Justin had a really strong round and was very consistent all day. Dylan hung in there and Brandon’s round of even was very good as well. Ty was off his game but really hung in there at the end and did a nice job. Hunter didn’t play his best but this is a good course for him and he will have a good rest of the week.”

Looking Ahead

Colorado will tee off in the afternoon for the second round, with Edwards anticipating potentially tougher conditions. “‘We will likely end up in the top 10, but there is almost always a big advantage to playing in the morning,” he added.”We play in the afternoon tomorrow, when the wind has a tendency to pick up, so we just have to do what we’ve done all season, and that’s staying in the proper mindset. The team’s main goal all week is just to be consistent in that mindset and attitude, and our competitiveness today was indicative of that.'”
