Country’s Population Surge: 60,000 New Residents & Location Insights

According to the data received by the National Health Insurance Corporation of the National Health and Welfare Committee on the 18th, the number of Koreans who obtained health insurance qualifications decreased by more than 32,000 from 29,4876 in 2020 to 26,2034 last year.

During this period, the number of Korean health insurance qualifications has decreased since 2020 and has increased since last year. However, considering the speed of low birth and aging, it seems difficult to continue to increase.

During the same period, foreigners acquired domestic health insurance qualifications increased.

The number of Chinese surged by 27,000 from 3129 to 5,6425.

In particular, Vietnamese were almost four times that of 13,714 to 59662. During this period, the increase was larger than Chinese, and last year, the number of people acquired was overturned. In addition, the number of people from Uzbekistan was 12,150, twice as much as four years ago.

As the number of foreign subscribers increases, their health insurance fraudulent cases are not stopped.

Last year, the number of foreigners and foreign citizens’ illegal benefits was 1,7087, up 16.8% compared to the 2023, and the number of fraudulent benefits increased by 28.5% to 2.55 billion won.

Representative Kim Mi -ae said, “Our country is decreasing due to low births, while the number of foreign subscribers is increasing, so we need to establish a comprehensive policy for the situation.”

However, there is a voice that foreign health insurance subscribers and mutualism should be carefully approached.

An official from the Korea Free Medical Movement Headquarters emphasized, “In the province, it is necessary to carefully approach foreigners, considering that there is a clear contribution to the domestic economy so that it is not possible to work due to lack of manpower.”
