Corn producers foresee new closures this Tuesday

On Monday night, farmers mentioned plans to extend blockades in Jalisco in demand of a lower price for corn. One of the points would be the crossing between the road to San Isidro Mazatepec and the Buenavista road section to Nueva Cofradía, in Tepetates, which was being used as an alternate route.

At this point The blockade will be mainly for cargo trucks. The producers mentioned that the passage of emergency vehicles or private cars transporting children and elderly people, as well as those traveling on the road to receive medical attention, will be respected.

Likewise, there are rumors that the road to Chapala could be taken.

CUCBA suspends face-to-face classes for Tuesday

The University Center for Biological and Agricultural Sciences (CUCBA) issued a statement to inform that, due to the blockades announced by corn producers, which will affect access roads to school facilities, the academic activities on Tuesday, October 28 will be carried out virtually.

Highway sections that continue to be blocked in Jalisco

  • Km 40 Guadalajara–Colima highway: road blocked.
  • Ocotlán Booth (Mexico–Guadalajara Highway): road blocked.
  • Road to Nogales, near the Technology Park: road blocked.
  • Guadalajara-Ocotlán Highway, at Av. Universidad 2000: road blocked.
  • La Barca–Jamay Highway, towards Atotonilco: blockade in both directions.
  • La Barca–San Juan Highway, km 3+700, intersection with toll highway 15D México–Morelia, km 402: road blocked.
  • Santa Rosa–La Barca Highway, km 49+100: road blocked.

Alternate routes

Alternate route for transportation of cargo and individuals, suggested by the State Highway Police and the National Guard: Carretera Nogales
Departure from the Guadalajara Metropolitan Zone (ZMG): Move along Av. Aviación, Av. Ramón Corona and Camino Viejo to Nextipac.
Entrance to the ZMG: Take Camino Viejo to Nextipac, Av. Ramón Corona and Av. Aviación.
Colima Highway, before km 40: Take the El Molino road, heading to Jocotepec, take the road to Ajijic and enter Chapala by road. Only double articulated units do not transit.

Road Police and National Guard issue alternative routes due to road blockades in Jalisco

Given the road blockades by farmers, the State Highway Police and the National Guard recommended the following alternative routes for private and cargo vehicles:

Highway to Nogales

  • Exiting the ZMG: Circulate along Av. Aviación, continue along Av. Ramón Corona and take Camino Viejo to Nextipac.
  • Entrance to the ZMG: Continue along Camino Viejo to Nextipac, then Av. Ramón Corona and Av. Aviación.

Highway to Colima (before kilometer 40)

  • Turn off onto the El Molino highway towards Jocotepec, continue along the Ajijic highway and access the ZMG via the Chapala highway.

Road Police report road closures in Jalisco; call for extreme precautions

After failing to reach an agreement between farmers and federal authorities in Mexico City, Corn producers who were demonstrating since Monday morning began road blockades.

The Road Police also reports closures on different routes in the state. Take precautions and consider alternate routes:

  • Km 40 Guadalajara-Colima Highway: road blocked.
  • Ocotlán Booth (Mexico–Guadalajara Highway): traffic stopped.
  • Highway to Nogales, near the Technology Park: total closure.
  • Guadalajara-Ocotlán Highway, on Av. Universidad 2000: blockade in both directions.
  • La Barca–Jamay Highway, heading to Atotonilco: road closed.
  • La Barca–San Juan Highway, km 3+700, intersection with Highway 15D México–Morelia (km 402): total blockade.
  • Santa Rosa–La Barca Highway, km 49+100: traffic stopped.

According to the organizers, the participation of more than a thousand producers from different municipalities of Jalisco is expected, including Ocotlán, La Barca, Atotonilco, Degollado and Arandas, which seeks to support the commissions that are holding negotiations with federal representatives in the country’s capital.
