Cork Man Claims Top Prize in St Vincent DePaul’s 24th Annual Car Draw

A Cork man has emerged victorious in this year’s highly anticipated St Vincent DePaul (SVP) Car Draw, an event that has raised a substantial sum for charitable causes. The draw, which took place last week, generated €251,181, a testament to the public’s generosity and support for SVP’s mission of assisting those in need.

The Draw Takes Place in Cork

The event was held at the Cork city Ford showroom on Forge Hill. The Lord Mayor of Cork, councillor Dan Boyle, took center stage to draw the winning ticket, adding a touch of local authority and tradition to the proceedings.

Winning the Grand Prize

After the draw, Carrigaline man Séan Kennedy Jr was announced as the winner of a brand new Ford Focus. His win brings much-needed joy and practical assistance to his family.

Other Winners and Support

The SVP Car Draw didn’t just have one winner. Six other individuals were also fortunate to receive cash prizes, including:

  • Marian Creedon, a woman from Ballyvourney, who won €750.
  • Ger Conroy, a man from Laois, who claimed the Bishop’s Prize of €1,500, supported by the Bishop of Cork and Ross, the Bishop of Kerry, and the Bishop of Cloyne.
  • Maria McGeever from Dublin, Gemma Robins from Kerry, Breid McCole from Donegal, and Alan Mc Cormack from Roscommon.

Charity President’s Statement

Mary Frances Behan, the south west regional SVP president, expressed her gratitude to the public for their support. She stated, “We have raised a staggering €251,181 this year, and the funds will help to offer a lifeline to struggling families and individuals in the region.”

Behan also acknowledged the contributions of key figures such as Francis Brennan, the car draw ambassador, and the suppliers and sponsors who made this event possible.

Looking Ahead

As the 2024 SVP Car Draw comes to a close, Behan invited the community to look forward to next year’s event. “As we wish the lucky winner safe driving and close off our 2024 car draw, do watch out for our 2025 annual car draw later in the year, where another beautiful car awaits another lucky winner with many cash prizes.”
