Leap Of Faith: Emperor Penguin Chick Takes The…

An emperor penguin chick was photographed for the first time jumping off an ice shelf about 15 meters high. This film will be featured in the series “Secrets of the Penguins” which will be broadcast by National Geographic and Disney Plus on Earth Day in April 2025. (Video by Bertie Gregory)

Like teenagers on a cliff, waiting for the first person brave enough to jump into a lake, hundreds of month-old emperor penguins are hidden on a 50-foot-high Antarctic ice shelf.

Hungry chicks are peering over the edge of the cliff, as if wondering if it is safe to jump from this height into Antarctic waters.

Then a chick flew in.

Some of the chicks watching from the side crane their necks to watch as the chick falls into the icy sea below, making a splash. After a few seconds, the chicks surfaced and swam away in search of fresh fish, krill, and squid. The other chicks gradually start to follow, and they fly one after the other, flapping their wings to move underwater instead of in the air.

The crew behind the National Geographic and Disney+ documentary series Secrets of the Penguins,

This Tuesday, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) requested preventive detention for Fernando Madureira, leader of the Super Dragões, and Hugo “Polaco”, a member of the cheer squad, within the scope of the Operation Praetorianand house arrest with electronic surveillance for Vítor Catão.

A judicial source told the Lusa agency that, in promoting the coercive measures to be applied to the defendants by the Criminal Investigation Court (TIC) of Porto, the MP prosecutor defended that Madureira and Hugo Carneiro (“Polish”) be subject to the coercive measure most serious: preventive detention.

For Vítor Catão, who chose not to make a statement before the criminal investigation judge Pedro Miguel Vieira, the MP defended the application of house arrest, with electronic surveillance.

For the remaining nine defendants, the MP prosecutor requested a ban on contact, a ban on access to sports venues and periodic presentations to the authorities.

After the MP’s promotions, the lawyers for the 12 defendants presented their respective arguments, but the coercive measures will only be known on Wednesday afternoon, at 4 pm.

However, at the end of the afternoon, Fernando Madureira’s wife, Sandra, and five of the seven detained at the Bela Vista police station (Hugo Loureiro,

Dissidents Refuse To Continue With Dialogues Without Ceasefire

The Central General Staff (EMC), the main dissident of the FARC, assured this Monday, through one of its war fronts, that if the Colombian Government does not reestablish the bilateral ceasefire, the dialogues will not continue.

“We believe that the only possibility of moving forward is to declare a bilateral ceasefire at the national level and to look for mechanisms to establish a negotiating table that represents the entire Farian unity,” said a dissident from the Eastern Joint Command, which operates in the east of the country.

The Colombian government suspended the bilateral ceasefire in the departments of Nariño, Cauca and Valle del Cauca last month in response to attacks against an indigenous community that left one leader murdered and two injured.

The Government assured that this measure did not affect the dialogues, which began last year with this dissident group led by ‘Iván Mordisco’, a former FARC leader who did not sign the peace agreement.

However, the EMC has asked the Government on several occasions to reestablish this measure and even threatened to attack military and police positions.

Now, in this new announcement, the dissidents allege: “due to the Government’s non-compliance,
