The 2025 Coolest Thing Made in Iowa competition, organized by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry and midwestone Bank, has recognized the CP770 cotton picker, produced by John Deere in Ankeny, as its winner.

Recognition for innovation and Iowa Manufacturing

Rosalind Fox, John Deere factory manager, stated in a press release that cotton pickers have been assembled at Des moines Works in Ankeny since 1950. She added, “Dedicated employees at Des Moines Works have been assembling cotton pickers in Ankeny since 1950. We will forever innovate on behalf of our customers, committed to delivering the world’s most advanced cotton harvesting equipment to their fields. Every day, our employees arrive with pride, eager to serve our customers. Competition Details and Impact

this year’s competition saw 69 nominated products from manufacturers across 51 Iowa communities. Following a public voting phase and a bracket-style tournament, four finalists were selected. The contest garnered over 93,000 votes.

nicole Crain, ABI president, noted the significance of manufacturing in Iowa, stating, “ABI has proudly supported Iowa’s manufacturing industry for more than a century, and companies like john Deere are a big part of that story. From early cotton pickers to today’s high-tech CP770, John Deere represents how Iowa manufacturers continue to evolve, innovate and lead. Just like the industries we serve, ABI has grown and adapted – always with a focus on supporting the people, products, and progress that drive our state forward.”

The CP770 is designed for enhanced efficiency, utilizing less fuel and featuring a larger cab compared to previous models. It is indeed equipped with a 13.6 liter,555 horsepower engine and can transport at speeds up to 20 mph,with a harvesting speed of 4.6 mph.
