After being first announced at the Game Awards on December 11, 2025, developer Remedy Entertainment announced that the highly anticipated sequel “Control Resonant” will be released in 2026. However, as the discussion on the specific release date in the online community became increasingly fierce, the official decided to personally refute the rumors: the development team’s communications director pointed out that all specific date information currently circulating on the Internet is purely “speculation.”
Official reiterated: Currently only the 2026 launch window is confirmed
Thomas Puha, who has served as communications director at Remedy Entertainment for nearly 11 years, issued a statement on the X platform (formerly Twitter) on January 26, reiterating that “Control Resonant” does not yet have a definite release date. Puha said in the post: “Due to some reports attributing words to us that we have never said, Remedy has only communicated that the launch window of “Control Resonant” is 2026. Everything other than this is speculation.”
Although it is unclear which piece of news Puha is responding to, searching for the release date of the game on Google and Apparently, these community discussions have attracted official attention, prompting Puha’s decision to highlight the current lack of an exact date.
From gunplay to melee combat: the sequel will bring an open-ended Manhattan stage
Control Resonant is the sequel to 2019’s critically acclaimed sci-fi action-adventure shooter Control. The story will follow Dylan Faden, the sister of Jesse Faden, the protagonist of the first game, as he searches for her while also stopping a supernatural threat escaping from the “Federal Bureau of Control” in downtown Manhattan. Different from the previous game, this game will focus on melee combat. Dylan will use a weapon called “Aberrant”, which can transform into different forms. In addition, the development team described the sequel as an “expandable, reality-bending playground of choices” that allows players to explore Manhattan in an “open-ended” way.
“Control Resonant” is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms in 2026.
