Celebrating Human Rights Through Music: A Constitution Week event

Daito City, osaka Prefecture, is gearing up to host a special “Constitution Week Memorial Gathering” centered around the theme of human rights. This event, titled “Human Rights Talk & Concert – Messages in Music,” aims to deepen citizens’ understanding of the Japanese Constitution and promote human rights awareness through a unique blend of discussion and musical performance.

Event Details: A Night of Reflection and Harmony

Scheduled for May 8th (Thursday) at 6:30 PM at the Daito City Cultural Center, the gathering promises an engaging evening. Doors are set to open at 6:00 PM. The event is free to attend,but tickets are required due to limited seating for 1,000 attendees.

The Daito City cultural Center is located at 13-30 Shinmachi, Daito City, Sumino. It’s approximately 500 meters from the JR Gakken Toshi Line station. Free parking is available,though space is limited.

Featured Performance: Matsumoto Josouo & Ensemble Sabina

The highlight of the evening will be a performance by Matsumoto Josouo and Ensemble Sabina. Matsumoto Josouo, a veteran in human rights education, will provide insightful commentary on the past context and human rights themes embedded within each song, accompanied by illustrative slides. This approach aims to illuminate the long and frequently enough arduous journey towards securing basic human rights.

Matsumoto Josouo’s extensive background includes years of service in local government,focusing on human rights education. He later founded Jinbun Net Co., Ltd. (now Sabinanet) to continue his work in the private sector, organizing talks and concerts centered on the intersection of music and human rights. He also collaborated with Italian musicians, leading to the formation of the “Sabina Orchestra of Friendship.” He previously lectured on human rights at Ryukoku University.

Ensemble Sabina, comprised of core members from the “Sabina Orchestra of Friendship,” operates under the principle that a wealth of music is born from friendships that respect each other as individuals and help each other. They perform extensively in Japan and Italy, fulfilling requests from local governments, businesses, and community organizations. The ensemble has released three CDs, including “Bonds of Friendship.”

Opening Act: Yume Mumyu – A Local Choral Gem

Adding a local touch to the event,the female choir Yume Mumyu will perform as the opening act. Established in June 1984, Yume Mumyu has been a consistent presence in Daito City’s music scene. Under the guidance of nakanata Tsuruko, the choir has held numerous concerts, including ten “dream concerts” at Thirty Hall and Izumi Hall. In June 2024, they celebrated their 40th anniversary.

Over the past four decades, Yume Mumyu has actively participated in Daito City-sponsored projects and performed at various events, including the Osaka Prefecture Choir Festival, Mama Chorus Contest, and even at the Kyocera Dome. in 2023, they performed at a Kato Tokiko concert, further solidifying their reputation as a beloved local choir.
