Uttar Pradesh Congress MP Rakesh Rathore Arrested in Rape Case
Petition for Anticipatory Bail Rejected
New Delhi – Congress MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur, Rakesh Rathore, was arrested on Thursday in connection with a rape case. Rathore was addressing a press conference when Kotwali Nagar police reached his residence to take him into custody.
This development comes a day after the Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court rejected Rathore’s petition for anticipatory bail.
Rathore’s Statement
Later, Rathore addressed news agency ANI, asserting, “The high court granted me 2-week time to appear before the lower court and follow the legal procedure. So, I am surrendering before the police in this connection. I am confident that I will get justice in the court of people and court of law.”
“The matter is subjudice before the court, so it will not be correct to speak on it,” he added.
Details of the Case
UP police registered a case against Rathore on January 17, following a complaint from a woman who accused him of sexually exploiting her over a four-year period with promises of marriage. The victim also provided call details and call recordings to the police in support of her accusation.
On January 22, the survivor’s husband lodged a separate complaint against five individuals, including Rathore and his son, accusing them of pressuring the family to settle the case. He claimed that Rathore’s associates had made offensive comments about his wife on social media. Sitapur Police registered a case against the five individuals under relevant sections of the BNS Act and Section 67 of the IT Act, for revealing her identity on social media platforms.
Legal Procedures
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court granted Rathore liberty of two weeks to surrender before the trial court in order to avail regular bail. This decision followed Rathore’s earlier petition for anticipatory bail, which was rejected.
Public Reaction
The incident has sparked intense public debate. Followers of Congress are divided on their response to Rathore’s arrest, with many expressing disbelief and calling for a fair trial. However, the victims’ community and supporters of justice are celebrating this move by the law enforcement agencies.
Next Steps
The rape case against Rakesh Rathore is currently under investigation. The trial court will deliberate on his regular bail application after his surrender. Both the victim and accused are expected to present their narratives during subsequent court proceedings.
As the investigation progresses, the nation watches intently for a verdict that upholds justice for the victim and for the accused, ensuring a fair trial within the bounds of the law.

Uttar Pradesh Congress MP Rakesh Rathore’s arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing rape case. The court of law will play a crucial role in determining the facts of the case, and public opinion should remain balanced while the judicial process unfolds.
