Although Arnold Schwarzenegger made his acting debut with the film Hercules in New York in 1970, Conan the Barbarian made him a Hollywood megastar twelve years later. As a fearless warrior, he avenged his massacred village in the cult film, and in the next two years he starred in a sequel called Conan the Destroyer.
The third part of the saga based on the works of Robert E. Howard was planned for years, but never saw fruition. Instead, a remake with Jason Momoa arrived in 2011, but it did not celebrate any major success.
After more than forty years, however, the work is finally moving forward. Arnold himself said at his Arnold Sports Festival event in Columbus that a completely different Conan will arrive in the film.
“It’s a big story in which Conan rules his kingdom for forty years. Then of course there’s some conflict, magic, monsters, you know. Now we have special effects and the studio has the financial ability to make real blockbusters. I’m really looking forward to it,” “Arnie” teased fans.
The new Conan will be directed and written by award-winning creator Christopher McQuarrie. The last few years he mainly connected with collaboration with Tom Cruise, for whom he prepared the films Jack Reacher, Edge of Tomorrow, The Mummy, Top Gun: Maverick and also the last four parts of Mission: Impossible. Instead of the Universal studio, which had the rights to Conan for a long time, 20th Century Studios, a subsidiary of Disney and the former 20th Century Fox, will procure the third installment.
Arnold is planning other comebacks as well
At the aforementioned event in Columbus, Schwarzenegger enticed the audience with his other projects. The action icon spoke with the director of the last two Predators, Dan Trachtenberg, about a possible return to the famous sci-fi franchise. In addition, according to Schwarzenegger, the script for the movie Commando 2 is ready, i.e. the continuation of the action hit from the eighties, in which the Austrian born as Colonel John Matrix fought with terrorists from the fictional South American state of Val Verde.
