The wave of compact video projectors continues to grow with players like Xgimi, Nebula by Anker, JMGO… everyone wants their place in the living room. But we now have to reckon with another actor from China: Dangbei. After unveiling its Freedos at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, the brand is doing it again with the N2 Mini, presented at IFA 2024. And as a nod to the end-of-year festivities, it fits perfectly into Santa’s sleigh thanks to an immediate reduction of 50 euros on Amazon, but for a limited time: until December 16, 2025.

A portable projector for big screen desires

The entry-level video projector market is a jungle: plastic cubes, phantom lumens, menus from another age… and sometimes, a good student who escapes from the herd. The Dangbei N2 Mini is one of these exceptions: a compact cube designed to follow its owner from one room to another without dragging a trolley of accessories.

Its first feat is evident at first glance with an integrated mount capable of rotating 190°, stable enough to aim at a wall, ceiling or any surface that doesn’t run away. The power supply slipped into the chassis simplifies everything, no need to drag around a bulky adapter, or a cable that pulls and forces you to give up your idea of an impromptu session. Technically, the projection is based on an LED source and a Full HD LCD matrix to avoid the rainbow effect.

Brightness tops out at 200 ANSI lumens, which imposes a dark environment, but the N2 Mini compensates with its flexibility: autofocus, keystone correction, automatic image adjustment and obstacle avoidance. In three seconds, it does the job and places a clean and framed 100-inch image, as if nothing had happened.

Connected, compact and smarter than it looks

Under its serious toy appearance, the N2 Mini has everything you need for a hassle-free movie night. Connectivity-wise, it provides the essentials: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI, USB and a 3.5mm audio output, which means that a soundbar or even a Bluetooth (or connected) speaker can connect to it. Its interface includes Netflix, Prime Video, Youtube and other compatible applications, with the possibility of casting from a smartphone via Miracast, Screenshare or Homeshare.

For sound, Dangbei slips in a 6W speaker compatible with Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus, which is OK for a small room and sufficient if you prefer to travel light. And to protect the optical engine, the brand uses a sealed EngineX module, supposed to last longer and avoid dust, the real plague of portable projectors.

Of course, for this price, there are concessions: the system relies on 1 GB of RAM and an in-house Linux platform, which limits versatility. And despite its talents, the low light prohibits viewing in broad daylight. But for a device of this size, it’s difficult to ask for more without inflating the bill.
