The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued an official warning after detecting the unindicated presence of hazelnuts and almonds in a batch of ground cloves sold in different regions of the country.
The notice, published on December 23, 2025, is especially aimed at people allergic to these nutssince consumption of the product could cause adverse reactions of varying severity in those with sensitivity.
How to cook safely
The data of the product involved are:

- Product appearance: glass container
- Batch number: 23053J
- Expiration date: 02/2026
- Unit weight: 37g
- Room temperature
The affected food is sold in 37-gram glass containers and is found under two brands in the market of the Alicante company La Barraca: Manjares and Jorge. What has motivated the alert is that the labeling of this ground cloves does not at any time warn about the presence of almonds or hazelnuts, which represents a risk for consumers with food allergies. The affected batch corresponds to the number 23053J and its expiration date is set for February 2026.
This alert has been registered with the reference ES2025/744 and was initially notified by the health authorities of the Valencian Community, who activated the protocol through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange, better known as SCIRI. Coordination between autonomous communities and state agencies has allowed the process of product withdrawal and control to begin.
Regarding its distribution, it has been confirmed that the batch has reached retail establishments. at least four communities: Valencian Community, Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura. However, it is not ruled out that units of the product have been redistributed to other areas of the country, so the real reach could be even greater.
AESAN clearly and forcefully recommends that those people with allergy to hazelnuts or almonds Do not consume this product under any circumstances. Even if part of the contents of the bottle have already been used, it is best to stop using it immediately.
The undeclared presence of allergens poses a risk that can range from digestive discomfort to serious allergic reactions, including cases of anaphylaxis. Therefore, the warning is considered of special urgency.
For the rest of the populationthat is, those who do not have allergies to these nuts, it is indicated that consumption of the product does not represent a significant danger.
