Colombia: Lower Internet, Phone & TV Reconnection Fees Now Law

Colombians will pay less when reconnecting their telecommunications services. The Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC) established collection limits for this procedure after regulating Law 2485 of 2025, promoted by Senator Julio Alberto Elías.

The new limits are 275 pesos for mobile services and 1,981 pesos for fixed services. The figures contrast with what is currently charged: up to 10,000 pesos for cell phones and 40,000 pesos for residential services.

The CRC’s technical, economic and legal analysis determined that more than 90% of fixed and pay television connections operate with technology that allows you to suspend and restore the service remotely, without technical visits or trips.

The study concluded that a large part of the values applied until now lacked justification in real operating costs.

The resolution specifies which activities can be included within the reconnection value and eliminates those that are not essential for return operation to the service, avoiding transferring unnecessary costs to users.

Senator Julio Elías Vidal, author and speaker of the rule, appreciated the CRC’s announcement and stated that the measure protects consumers from rate abuses.

“Fair reconnection is now a right protected by law. These values will apply from July 16, 2026. The socialization of the draft resolution will be open until February 9, 2026 to receive observations from citizens and operators. This regulation guarantees that disproportionate fees are not charged for a process that, in many cases, is carried out remotely in minutes”he wrote on his X account.

The congressman highlighted that the amounts reflect the reality of a procedure that, in most cases, is completed remotely in a few minutes.

The draft resolution will be open to public comments until February 9, 2026. The rate caps would begin to take effect on July 16, 2026.
