The Police and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Colombian city of Santa Marta, with the collaboration of Italian investigators, arrested the young man who, according to the investigations, lured and deceived the Italian biologist Alessandro Coatti, leading him into a deadly trap.
This is Uber Etilvio Torres García, whose capture came six months after the brutal murder, which shocked both countries.
According to what El Tiempo reports, which reconstructed the investigation which ended with the arrest of the seventh member of the gang that killed Coatti, Uber contacted the biologist via a dating app and arranged an appointment with him at the Park of Lovers (the Parque de los Novios), a central and crowded place in Santa Marta.
From there the two began walking along the seafront of the Colombian city’s bay, until they took a taxi towards the El Pando neighborhood, where Coatti was drugged, robbed and killed by gang members.
And a photograph of the walk with Coatti was the key evidence that allowed us to identify Uber, who was tracked down last Monday while he was watching a football match in the Las Vegas neighborhood, wearing the same clothing as on the day of the crime.
His arrest completes the picture of the seven members of the gang, all identified and linked to the crime. The commander of the Metropolitan Police, Colonel Jaime Ríos, praised the investigators underlining the institution’s commitment to ensuring justice for Coatti’s family.
