Coffee & Longevity: Harvard Study Findings

by drbyos

Unfortunately, the research team was unable to provide a precise explanation as to why coffee is healthier in the morning.

However, there are some possible explanations. One of them is the daily rhythm and therefore also the melatonin balance, which coffee also has an effect on. Cardiovascular health is also closely related to the body’s circadian rhythm, for which food and drink are important stimuli.

Another expert – Thomas F. Lüscher from the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital in London – expresses another assumption: He thinks that the autonomic nervous system is the cause: “In the morning hours there is usually a significant increase in sympathetic activity when we wake up and get out of bed, an effect that subsides again over the course of the day and reaches its lowest level during sleep. It is therefore possible, as the authors emphasize, that coffee consumption is on the rise disrupts the circadian rhythm of sympathetic activity in the afternoon or evening.”
