Cocaine Arrest: Bassa Car Chase Ends in Handcuffs

On Friday 9 January, the carabinieri from the Oppeano station were carrying out one of the usual territorial control services in the Municipality of Rizza Islandwith particular attention to the fight against drug dealing, when they noticed a 32-year-old Moroccan national, already known to the police, who was wandering suspiciously near the center of the country, areas which, among other things, were already at the center of the Carabinieri’s patrols precisely due to the possible presence of subjects of operational interest.
When the 32-year-old realized he had ended up under the magnifying glass of the military, he would have tried to drive away in his carbut at that point the operators decided to stop it to subject it to a check. The subsequent search would have made it possible to find, hidden among the man’s clothes and in the vehicle, 15 doses of cocaine for a total weight of 12.75 grams.

However, during the operations, the police noticed, parked in front of the 32-year-old’s house, a large displacement car with an individual of foreign origin driving, who would have started the vehicle for try to get away quicklyonce we understood what was happening. Without hesitation, the Carabinieri personnel managed to stop the vehicle a few hundred meters later, in open countryside, after noticing that the driver had freed himself from a package by throwing it out the window. The driver was then identified as a 52-year-old Moroccan man already known to the police and the package was immediately recovered: inside there were 4 blocks of cocaine, for a total weight of 66.52 grams, and one of heroin weighing 1.75 grams, as well as 970 euros in cash.

The 32-year-old’s house was also searched, in which the sum of was seized 1190 euro in banknotes of various denominations, as it was believed to be the result of drug dealing activity.

All the material was therefore seized and the two individuals ended up in handcuffs in flagrante delicto of possession for the purpose of dealing narcotic substances.
Once the formalities were completed and the prosecutor’s office was informed, the 32-year-old was held in the security rooms of the Legnago Command and on the morning of Saturday 10 January he was brought before the judge of the Verona court, who validated the arrest and, following the request for defense deadlines, set the hearing for February.
The 52-year-old was instead taken to Montorio prison.
