The Romanian Armed Forces have taken delivery of the first batch of Cobra II armored vehicles produced in Turkey, according to an proclamation from Otokar Savunma Sanayi on Tuesday. The vehicles, manufactured in Sakarya, Turkey, were transported to Mediaș, Romania, where they will undergo local integration work.
This delivery is a meaningful milestone following an agreement signed in April between Otokar and a Romanian firm. The agreement outlines plans to co-produce over 1,000 Cobra II vehicles, enhancing Romania’s domestic defense industry and providing advanced capabilities to its military.
Co-Production Agreement Details
The agreement between Otokar and its Romanian partner involves a phased approach to production. Initially, vehicles will be assembled using components manufactured in Turkey. Over time, the Romanian firm will gradually increase its involvement in the manufacturing process, eventually producing a significant portion of the Cobra II vehicles locally.
