Coach Harbaugh’s Comments on Jackson’s Absence Raise Questions

Lamar Jackson’s Recent Absence: Is It Just a Rest Day?

The Baltimore Ravens took to their practice fields again on Wednesday, with some notable absentees, including the team’s star quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Coach’s Perspective: A Rest Day for Lamar Jackson

Emphasizing Jackson’s form and upcoming games, Ravens coach John Harbaugh described the quarterback’s absence as a "rest day." "He’s been playing great and we’ve got a lot of football in front of us here. We’ve got a game, quick game, another big game coming up. So that was warranted today."

Ravens’ Official Stance: Injury Concerns

However, the Ravens’ official practice report indicates something different. Jackson, along with defensive tackle Travis Jones, defensive end Brent Urban, running back Rasheen Ali, and cornerback Arthur Maulet, were listed as sidelined with back and knee injuries. Players often taking load management days, even with minor injuries, are usually listed as having a rest day.

Injuries and Return to Practice

Several other players also missed Wednesday’s practice:

  • Defensive Tackle Travis Jones: Annke
  • Defensive End Brent Urban: Concussion
  • Running Back Rasheen Ali: Ankle
  • Cornerback Arthur Maulet: Neck

Marion Humphrey and Nate Wiggins, both cornerbacks, were back at practice after getting limited duty. Previously out with knee and shoulder/illness issues respectively, they return to partial work. Additionally, Broderick Washington (knee) and running back Keaton Mitchell, just entering his 21-day practice window after a knee injury, were limited participants. Mitchell, whose 21-day practice window opened last week following a knee injury, was a full participant on Wednesday.

The Verdict

While Harbaugh brushed off concerns regarding Jackson’s absence as a necessary rest day, the official injury reports suggest otherwise. The Baltimore Ravens clearly have their hands full managing multiple players’ health.

What’s Next?

Despite the injuries and absences, the Ravens are preparing for an upcoming big game. With players regaining full or partial participation, the team is determined to compete with their full strength.
