If the Los Angeles Clippers contact him in the future, Blake Griffin would welcome the honorable opportunity to see his No. 32 jersey retired by the franchise. However, the former NBA star admitted that he simply is disappointed by the recent cut of his former Clippers teammate, Chris Paul.
“The Clippers are what I consider home, and that’s part of why it sucks to see what happened with Paul. But yes, it’s something I would never turn down.”, Griffin responded when asked about the potential retirement of his jersey in Los Angeles. Paul was shipped out by Los Angeles last week, despite the future Hall of Famer guard announcing that the 2025-26 season would be his last, with plans to finish his career as a Clipper.
Hours after the shocking development, a screenshot of a video call between Paul and former Clippers teammates Griffin and DeAndre Jordan went viral on social media.
Griffin, who established himself as another Clippers legend like Paul as they formed the team’s “Lob City” era, experienced a brutal breakup with the franchise in the past.
After signing a five-year contract extension worth $171 million with the Clippers in the summer of 2017 with the idea of staying long-term, the now retired “long man” he felt betrayed when he was traded to the Detroit Pistons a few months later during the 2017-18 season. Given the terrible treatment he has received from the franchise, it would be interesting to see how Paul will react when the Clippers express their intent to raise his No. 3 jersey to the ceiling of the Intuit Dome one day.
