Christmas Sweets Price Hike: 15% Increase 2023

The price of the christmas sweets has increased on average by 15,4% in large supermarkets compared to the last year. In this sense, some spikes of rise of up to 65.3% have been recorded just before Christmas begins, according to a study carried out by Facua-Consumers in Action.

The consumer organization, to prepare this report, has analyzed the evolution of 185 prices of chocolates, nougats, mantecados and Polvorones for sale in chains such as Mercadona, Yes, Hypercor, Alcampo, buy it y Carrefour.

Facua has recorded the prices of various products from private brands such as Hacendado, Dulce Noel, El Corte Inglés, Alcampo or Eroski and other products marketed under the brands Nestlé, Mon Cheri, Trapa, Suchard, El Almendro, El Lobo, La Casa, Delaviuda, Lindor, Merci, Dulcinea and Vicens. Of all the prices analyzed between the months of October 2024 and 2025, only three have decreased compared to last year and eight have remained unchanged. The rest, 174, they are more expensive than last year.

Hipercor, the supermarket that registers the greatest increase

The study reveals that the supermarket where Christmas sweets have become most expensive has been Hypercorwith a 20% increase on average. The Alcampo chains followed closely, with an increase of 19.8%, and Carrefour, with 18%. The smallest increases have been recorded by Eroski, 13.1%, Dia, 12.4%, and Mercadona, which registers the smallest increase, 9%.

By types of sweets, the greatest increase is recorded by the supreme quality toasted yolk nougat from El Corte Inglés Selection in Hipercor, which has gone from 2.39 euros in 2024 to 3.95 in 2025. This represents an increase of 65.3%. The second biggest increase has been experienced by the assortment of Guylian chocolates, in Alcampo, going from 6.85 euros to 10.95, 60% more.

On the other hand, at Carrefour, the bag of hazelnut, almond, truffle and dark chocolate chocolates from its own brand, with a net weight of 470 grams, has skyrocketed by 47% since 2024, going from 4.89 euros to 7.19 in 2025. At Dia, the chocolates filled with cherry in Trapa liqueur, 120 grams, have increased their cost by 40%, from 2.35 euros to 3.29.

At Eroski, the 337 gram box of Lindor chocolates has gone from 11.99 euros to 16.49, registering an increase of 37.5%. In Mercadona the nougat tablet Suchard It cost 3.99 euros and this year it is 5.00, a 25.3% increase.

Upward trend from 2023

The Facua study also highlights that the prices of these products have registered an increase of 22.6% since the end of October 2023. In this way, Alcampo is the supermarket that registers the greatest increase in the price of chocolates, mantecados and Polvorones in the last two years, 40% on average. Once again, the greatest increase is recorded in chocolates chocolate Guylianwhich have gone from 5.99 euros in 2023 to 10.95 in 2025. This represents an increase of 82.8%.

Carrefour records the second largest incrementwith an average of 28,6% during the same two-year period, with products costing twice as much as they did two years ago. This is the case of the crunchy chocolate nougat from the Trapa brand, which, in 2023, was worth 0.99 euros and now in 2025 it has a price of 1.99, 101% more.

At Hipercor, these products have experienced an increase of 27.3%. Eroski and Dia register an increase of 21% average y Mercadona of 20.7%. In this supermarket chain, the biggest increase has been experienced by the Hacendado brand’s crunchy chocolate nougat, which has gone from 1.70 euros in 2023 to 2.40 this year, 41.2% more.

Mercadona reduces the packaging of some products

On the other hand, Facua has denounced that Mercadona has significantly reduced the packaging of their Senzza chocolates with hazelnut, fondant, praline and almond. In 2023, this product contained 470 grams, 40 chocolates, and cost 4.20 euros (3.50 on sale). In 2024 the format was the same, but the price rose to 4.90 (4.40 euros on sale). This 2025, the container sold is 330 grams, 28 chocolates, and the price is 4.30 (3.90 on sale).

In this way, the price of chocolates is 11.81 euros per kilogram, while in 2024 it was 9.36 and in 2023 it was 7.44 euros. Facua recalled that last year it already reported changes in formats and price increases in nine nougats and chocolates for sale in large supermarkets.

In this sense, Facua has once again requested the Ministry of Consumer Affairs to carry out a law reform to force companies that engage in this type of practice to have to announce the change for a long period of time in the labeling of the affected product. In this way, according to Facua, consumers will be able to know how the packaging, format or price of these products has been modified.
