The Chinese side has promised general licenses for the export of important products for German companies, said the CDU politician. He considers this to be a good promise. He made it clear that individual solutions were not enough. Wadephul said he also brought up Chinese overcapacity in electric mobility, solar or steel. However, there doesn’t seem to be much movement on this issue on the Chinese side.

China calls on Wadephul to recognize the One China policy with regard to Taiwan

Wadephul also met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. He insisted on the recognition of the Chinese claim to Taiwan. Han said after the conversation that he asked Wadephul to respect the one-China principle.

Wadephul’s visit to China was originally scheduled to take place at the end of October. However, it was postponed shortly before departure because the Chinese side had not confirmed enough dates for talks. Critical statements by the Foreign Minister regarding the Taiwan issue had previously caused displeasure in Beijing.
