China’s “Struit Thunder-2025a” Exercise Simulates island Blockade

Amidst escalating regional tensions, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has initiated the “struit thunder-2025a” exercise in the East China Sea. This military maneuver involves live ammunition and is designed to test the PLA’s capabilities in key areas, including blockade operations and precision strikes against designated targets. According to Senior Colonel Shi Ji, the Eastern Command Press Secretary, the exercise aims to evaluate the combat readiness and effectiveness of Chinese forces in a complex operational habitat.

Taiwan Responds with “Rapid Response exercise”

In response to China’s military drills, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that the PLA’s activities would continue and activated its own defense protocols, including the “Rapid Response Exercise.” This counter-maneuver is intended to demonstrate Taiwan’s resolve and ability to defend its territory against potential aggression. The Taiwanese ministry of Defense reported a meaningful surge in Chinese military presence around the island, including the deployment of 21 warships and 71 aircraft, marking the highest number of warships recorded in a single day near Taiwan in nearly a year, and the highest number of aircraft since October 2024. Four shore-based ships were also observed.
