Several European auto parts manufacturers have reportedly ceased operations following ChinaS restrictions on rare-earth exports, according to the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA).
The industry body stated that as the restrictions were implemented in April,European parts manufacturers have submitted hundreds of export license requests, with only approximately 25% receiving approval.
Impact on European Automotive Supply Chain
The halted operations highlight the vulnerability of the European automotive supply chain to disruptions in the supply of rare-earth elements, which are critical components in various automotive parts, including electronics, magnets, and catalytic converters.
“European parts makers have made hundreds of requests for export licenses as the restrictions were enacted in April, the association said, but only about 25% have been approved.”
